As the year draws to an end I have been spending time looking both forward at 2018 and back at 2017. While we have big changes ahead, I look back with gratitude for all of your support.
The year 2018 brings about great change for our blog. One huge change is that Harper will be leaving the blog. On January 8th, she will embark on a 6 month mission trip to Haiti, Jamaica, and Belize. When she gets back, she will be heading to college. It’s not going to be easy letting go of my daughter, business partner, and cherished friend.
While letting go is a difficult step, I have been preparing for this change for a long time. Over the past year, I have gradually been learning how the website works, how to photograph food, and how to edit photographs. I actually have found that I love being able to use my creative side. With each recipe, my photos improve, but I know I’ll never be able to write like Harper does.
In addition to preparing for Harper’s absence, I am gearing up for new challenges. One of these is to create more video in the coming year. I just finished my first video a few months ago and plan to do more like this. I would also like to dabble with doing more instructional videos. Who knows, I might even step out of my shell enough to do some Facebook live videos!
Another change I’ve been planning for since I started the blog is to write health related articles. While starting the blog as a food blog seemed like an easy way to dip my toe in, I intended for it to grow from this. As both a chiropractic physician and a naturopathic physician, I have a strong interest in natural medicine and nutrition. I want to include articles on health, focusing first on ketogenic and low-carb diets. This year, I plan try an article or two and see how it goes over. Don’t worry, I will still continue publishing recipes on the same schedule.
Looking back at 2017, it has been amazing to see how much our blog has grown! The thing I love most is that I feel like I’m starting to get to know some of you, my followers, through the comments and social media.
Thank you all for your help with growing our blog! Every “like” and comment on Facebook and Instagram, and every re-pin on Pinterest helps us more than you can imagine. Thanks also to all of you who have made purchases through our Amazon affiliate links. I’m not a huge fan of having advertisements on the blog, but doing so allows me to not charge for my recipes.
As I look back at the year, it is fun to go through and see what recipes were favorites. These are the best low-carb recipes of the year according to page views. I wish all of you a joyous and prosperous 2018! Enjoy!

Awww! That makes my day! I have a bunch of Thanksgiving recipes on the site already, but maybe I should put them together and make a Thanksgiving post.

Hello ladies! I just came across your recipes and can’t wait to try them ALL! I recently started a low-carb life-style (trying to stay away from the defeating word that starts with “d”, and have been looking all around for decent recipes that have ingredients usually easy to find and work with. You have taken all the guesswork out this for me..I’m especially looking forward to trying your Meatball Sub with Mozzarella bread. I hope it’s as easy to make as you’ve said. Are you coming out with a cookbook? Again, thanks for all your hard work so that we can enjoy a healthier and delicious life-style!
Thanks Amy!
We don’t have a cookbook yet, but people keep asking me for one, so I’ve just begun to compile my recipes for one. Good luck with your new lifestyle!
Best,
-Annissa
Now the meatball sub looks amazing! I do so love quick articles like these that highlight several recipes at once. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks,Tara!
Annissa, I don’t comment frequently but I look forward to reading your articles in the future! What great information and perspective you can offer as a chiropractor, naturopath, and keto/LC advocate. Thank you for sharing it with us. I pray Harper is safe on her mission trip. You’ve established a beautiful blog together, and probably made lovely mom-and-daughter memories too. New years bring new things and many changes, but love never fails. =)
Erica,
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m going to miss Harper so much! She finished her training this morning and is on her way to Haiti as I write this. I’m so glad I have so much support from people like you to keep moving forward with the blog.
Best,
-Annissa

Lots of great ideas! Those sticky buns are calling my name!

So many great recipe to choose from! I hope your daughter Harper enjoyed her travels and is now enjoying college!
Thanks! She loved her mission trip and is almost through her first semester of school.
Those sticky buns are calling my name. The meatball subs too!
I love them both!
Thank you for all these recipes!! Trying low keto for the first time due to having SLE and gaining weight from medications and eating!!
Hi Kimberly! I’m glad you found my blog. I wish you the best on keto! Sometimes people with SLE do well on keto, but others find that the keto auto-immune protocol (AIP) works even better as it cuts out more inflammatory foods.
