The recipe

It’s always nice to spice up your daily routine with a special treat for breakfast or dessert. What’s a better way than with this mouthwateringly rich and creamy low-carb chocolate banana milkshake? It’s practically what dreams are made of!

My favorite thing about this recipe is just how easy it is to make and clean up. This milkshake is made in a blender and there’s absolutely no guesswork or complicated steps. It’s easy to make on the go in the mornings or as a nice treat after a long day at work.

The inspiration

As a long-time fanatic of the chocolate and banana combination, I’m always looking for opportunities to combine this perfect match. On a low-carb diet, sometimes it can be a little tricky to add banana flavoring to recipes without using actual banana, but the chocolate in this milkshake perfectly complements the banana flavor and even has added health benefits.

With this recipe, I wanted to create a milkshake that would work for both dessert or breakfast and would be satisfying enough to keep you feeling full for hours. Because this recipe doesn’t use sugar, I’ve found that I don’t get that sugar-crash that you might experience with a normal milkshake.

Are bananas keto?

If you look online, there are loads of opinions regarding eating fruits on a low-carb or ketogenic diet. Bananas are particularly high in carbs, so it’s normally considered a no-go for anyone on a low-carb diet. Fortunately, it’s still possible to get that delicious banana flavor without the additional carbs.

For this recipe, we used this flavoring, but there are many good banana flavorings available. Be sure to look for a natural flavoring that doesn’t contain any sugar or sweetener. Although this recipe doesn’t contain any actual banana, you won’t even be able to tell.

Don’t have banana flavoring? You can easily omit the flavoring to create a delicious chocolate milkshake.

How to make a milkshake without ice cream.

A traditional milkshake is made from ice cream, but on a low carb diet, sugar-free or keto-friendly ice creams are not always accessible, and, if they are, they may use unfamiliar sweeteners or unnatural flavorings. Fortunately, it’s surprisingly easy to make a delicious, creamy milkshake without ice cream.

For this recipe, I use heavy cream to create that smooth creamy texture of a milkshake and then add ice to thicken it. When making this milkshake, it’s extremely important blend the ice as much as possible to get the creamiest texture.

Is cocoa powder good for you?

Although cocoa powder is similar to chocolate, it has all the benefits without the added sugars that are in the traditional chocolate bar. Cocoa powder is an extremely rich source of antioxidants. These are thought to provide numerous health benefits such as reducing high blood pressure, improving blood flow, and reducing inflammation.

When purchasing cocoa powder, be sure to select an unsweetened option to avoid any additional carbs.

Final words

While bananas may be high in carbs, you can still enjoy the taste in this milkshake, our banana nut pancakes, our banana pudding, and this keto banana nut chaffles from Butter Together Kitchen.

No matter what time of day it is, this chocolate banana milkshake is the perfect way to cool-off and spoil yourself with a satisfying low-carb treat. I hope you enjoy it!
